Lab 54 Calculations Guide

1) Multiply by the length of your magnesium strip by 0.0097g/cm.

2) You should be able to calculate the number of moles

3) Use the worksheet that was given to you to help you calculate the pressure. If you did not receive the worksheet, come to my class and obtain a copy.

4a) Use Avogrado's law
4b) Calculate the volume of the gas

5) Use the results from your table

6) To calculate the average, add up your 3 trials from your measured volume (PV/nT) and then divide by 3. Your remaining result is considered your average. To calculate the deviation, subtract each trial by your average. After that is done, simply to the same steps used to calculate your average; add then divide by 3.

7) %error = Actual/ Theoretical. In other words, your average/.08206 x 100%
